franchi momentum elite vs tikka t3

Im looking for another LR hunting rifle and was seriously looking at Christianson arms but not so much now. The Momentum is Franchi's hunting rifle, introduced by the Italian firm in 2018. It was raffled, gave winner 450 hoping to thrd and add brake but barrel too thin. I also like the Fierce Reaper and the Sako S20 for heavy-recoiling cartridges. x bolt is about 150 or more expensive. This ammo is usually an average accuracy performer for me, but dang did the Franchi shoot it well. However, Ruger American rifles are not perfect. Which leaves Winchester, Weatherby, Tikka/Sako. Gun #: 932303293. What do you think of the Bergara B14 HMR? i would like to buy new as its going to be my first rifle so thought with mod . Luckily I was at a store on vacation that let me handle both. It is a three lug 60 deg. After reading you, I am going to use them now for hunting. The more you talk the clearer it becomes that youve never held much less used a gun. Its a scaled down, lighter weight Sako TRG action with a Sako barrel and trigger. Granted, I got the better tools for measuring how off what they sold is but theres some applications where cheap is better. Would love a Tikka, but your notes on them provide the info for not making the cut. See also Gluck. Its like the girl you almost dated because you were such good friends and got along with great, but just never could fall in love with. Second is the on top the receiver scope mounts are based on Savage Accutrigger not Remington. Its a 3-lug design with a decently large extractor and ejector and large locking lugs. Do you have any information on the Howa, or an opinion on which way I should. So happy you out this together as it brings all of your work together and I hope you link to it. The Tikka action is by far the best in this price point because it cycles ammo perfectly, has a silky smooth bolt slide and is manufactured to a high tolerance so every last one I pick up feels just as good as the one next to it. Had a question, What are your thoughts/opinion on the Wilson Combat AR10s? Hi Jim Im trying to click your links to the guns but its not working. Been looking at the franchi momentum has anyone got this rifle ? I think in theory controlled feed is better, but they also generally dont feed well (or at all) if you try to feed by dropping one in, rather than mag feeding. Can't see enough difference to make a difference. It is very expensive. My mossberg patriot shoots like a custom rifle. under 9 lb 7 mm or 300 w m. Jim, I know you are a fierce fan. I recall in a vid you talked about hunting with Mosin Nagans, the Russian 30.06! As you can see I am a gun collector and have not used my 7 mm Mag. Both good guns, I would worry about Franchi suddenly stopping production of this rifle and parts availability going to zero. If you want an accurate rifle with a threaded barrel and a decent trigger, it doesnt seem like you can go wrong with this one for under $500. As of now its my most accurate and favorite rifle. What are your thought on the Ruger precision? What is your opinion on Gunwerks? Hey Jim, Looking past your racism when you buy once and buy quality you never cry about it, your just damn glad you made the right decision because often a lost opportunity is just that, it never comes again in life. Theres something cool coming. I own a 6.5-.300 Wby and reload my own ammo. Cannot find the Federal rounds anymore so Shooting the Hornady Precision Hunter 110s now. What matters is on the paper for 550 dollars and a threaded barrel to boot. The trouble Im having wracking my brain over is caliber. bolt turn was a bit rough out of the box. Hear hear. It feels almost as rigid as concrete, and thats a good thing. I was disappointed to see that you no longer recommend the Savage 110 ultralight, having watched the original review which just about made up my mind to spend the $1200. Im a big fan of Sig pistols and never had an issue with QC. So, too, will the rifles 2-position safety allow you to load and unload safely. I know they are two different price points, but Id love to see a side by side comparison between the 2020 Waypoint and the Savage 110 Ultra Lite. Thank you for your great videos especially on moderately priced optics and arms. I was down to the Ultralite or the Savage High Country and went with the High Country because of this. Removable e Box Magazine (Large Capacity) I would have to agree that no higher end rifle list should ever not have a Mod 70 or a Sako on it. I did go looking for the reloading equipment you mentioned and more on acquiring lowers ahead of time, yet unable to find. Any thoughts? I have been looking for a carbon barrel rifle in a .308 due to ammo availability. Thanks! May 7, 2018. Will be used for 100-500 yd plinking and occasional deer hunting. That one is on my radar and Id love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks. It is still a preferred caliber in Scandinavia for big game. I had settled on this for my next rifle based on the Weatherguard coating, price and MOA accuracy guarantee but now it seems we may never see them. Christensen MPR The MPR looks fantastic, but I do feel like its a little bit of lipstick on a pig. PS. Thanks for the info , it will certainly help those with no interest in spending too much to have a good rifle. I want a lightweight rifle that has mild Recoil with ballistics similar to 270 Winchester but in a short action. some of us realize we would be charged a certain premium. Gunwerks builds great guns, but I just dont see them as being THOUSANDS of dollars better than a Fierce, Weatherby, Seekins, etc. One issue that has come up with all three of their guns is having to check and tighten the front and rear action assembly screws. Do you think this is normal business practice ? I was in the market for an affordable hunting rifle this year and you helped me a lot and changed my mind on my first choice. Then I bought an Alaskan 338 Win Mag Laminate in Stainless. and the weathermark? i have a momentum in .308. stock looks a bit odd, but handles my frame very well. Fnanchi is most likely the same design since they share ownership. I\ve hunted since high school age but always small game/birds. You mentioned the cheap filling stock. In fact, I did a whole video showing the limitations of the Ruger American. Bergara B14 Hunter? I appreciate your knowledge and insight. Its a well designed stock, but the fit and finish feels cheesyespecially the checkering pattern they use. Cheers. I really like the trigger feel, but it is a little heavy. I have purchased about 12 different rifles in the sub-$500 price point over the last 3 years to test out for this review. XBolt Pro is a good gun but needs a new trigger. I seriously am not sure how you can improve on it. I decided to to send Fierce an email basically telling them how disappointed I was with the tight chamber and extractor design issues and failure. Full Details. And have heard mostly good things on it, so I kinda think it was mostly a caliber issue for that gun. Stock: A carbon version of Bergaras excellent HMR stock. Like you I love the idea of the cerakote on it and I think a stiffer stock lends itself to shooters well. I was looking at the Tikka for a while but Im not crazy about the slower twist in .30-06. Id pick the CVA Cascade from that group. Even though Im happy with my decision, the Ultralite might have been the better way to go. Of all the rifles I own, if you just said Grab a rifle and go hunting without any more specifics of where Id be hunting or what Id be hunting, Id grab that rifle. Im leaning on leaving my 300 Weatherby for a 300 win mag, and very interested in Seekins. My concern is that with your test, the vanguard with a #2 profile barrel threw shot #5 basically everytime. They will be on sale at cabelas this next week, and I havent heard that much about them. We watch all your videos on YouTube. Server Time: 2023-01-16 08:20:56 UTC High comb, rigid, modern stock lines. So if you are shooting 300 win mag, will it throw inaccurate shots on the 3rd shot (or even the 2nd)? As i get older i am now back to 6,555 and 8x57IS and 308win when it come to calibers but that is more related to the hunting i do than the rifles .Love your tube videos and the fact that you have your own opinions an are not afraid to tell everyone about them. It uses the same barrel as the more expensive Bergara B14 rifles, because they are both owned by the same parent company and come out of the same factories in Spain. It tames the recoil of this 6.6-pound rifle extremely well. Problem is , Im not sure it is practical to spend so much on a custom for some folks. With a century and a half of firearms manufacturing behind it, Italy's Franchi has unveiled its first-ever centrefire hunting rifle, the Momentum. Am I wrong in my logic? I agree with you. Also would be cool to see you do a semi-custom rifle (Bighorn action, prefit barrel, Ag composites stock, trigger tech, etc.) I was all ready to order the Fierce but I see your post above and now I am on the fence. Yes if I were going to Alaska where you can run into damp rainy weather for days on end I would either have my Mauser electrolysis nickle plated (it plates even the inside of a receiver and barrel) or if I wanted to get off cheap take a chance on a modern stainless rifle that probably would freeze up in very cold weather with their speed lock mechanisms which are idiotic in a hunting rifle. Can you do a in-depth comparison review of the CVA Cascade vs. Ruger American? Another group was slightly more evenly distributed but similar in size. Are you familiar with this cartridge? Threaded barrel for a brake. Unlocking the Momentums bolt took more effort than a typical Remington 700. I owned one and sold it. The Howa is around $200-$300 cheaper than the Savage. Im extremely satisfied with this rifle, for a hunting rifle. GSG, I always just hunted. Quality control issues, Im about to send it BACK in for a 2nd time for them to figure out why its damn near impossible to open or close the bolt after a few shots. And a nice walnut stock would have cost them a few more pennies to use. They do have a more expensive option for a titanium action that is even lighter, but I feel the titanium actions just arent as smooth in the hand. I have been looking at the savage 110 ultralite 6.5 creedmoor. $799.00 Add To Cart For Price. Jim love the reviews and the Channel. Great to see honest reviews that are very entertaining hope to see many more. A friend of mine was trying to talk me into a Christensen arms Ridgeline FFT but from what you said about their QC in manufacturing I\m not sure I want to risk it. It has the Accufit stock, but not the Accustock with the aluminum rail system. I own the X-Bolt in 7mm Magnum and it is fantastic. My initial impression is that it is a pretty standard budget bolt gun. Scope bases follow the Remington 700 mounting footprint, but the action length does not so only 2-piece R700 bases or separate rings will work. Ill be curious to see them for myself, but Ive heard good things. Thank you. HOWEVER, since recording that review Ive also had the opportunity to hunt a good bit. I\ve been looking at a lot of your reviews and videos and am wondering if 7mm rem mag might be the best option for a cartridge. I like the action of the Howa better but the Proof barrel on the Savage. The Tikka action is by far the best in this price point because it cycles ammo perfectly, has a silky smooth bolt slide and is manufactured to a high tolerance so every last one I pick up feels just as good as the one next to it. 1 Image (s) Franchi Momentum Elite 6.5 Creed Realtree Excape 24" TB Burnt Bronze 41606. But after that, its likely going to be a custom. I bought a Tikka M550 in 308 while stationed in Germany back in 1984. I also own a Savage 110 Ultralite in 6.5 PRC- fantastic accuracy, but I just could not warm up to the plasticy stock. Their ammo is INSANELY expensive, so I wouldnt invest in a Weatherby chambering. In regards to the CVA and the Bergara, Im looking at getting one or the other in 7mm Mag. Im familiar with it, but havent done an official review. Id like to see a comparison between all the weather resistant advertised rifles, quality of weather protection materials, pros and cons of the different coatings or metals. I just took the first shots with the Winchester XPR in 6.8 Western today. I\m a big fan of your videos and expertise. BTW unless youre reloading, the vast majority of factory 6.5 Creedmoor is quite a bit faster than the same projectile in 6.555. You have probably heard this before but I am not really a hunter, at least not yet. Jim, Ive had three X bolts in 6.8 western in the past 8 months and all shot well but velocities were a good 100 fps or more below what was stated on box on three different brands. If I were buying a new hunting rifle today and I could drop $2,300, Id pick the Fierce Rogue with a steel action. The barrel is cold hammer forged with rifling like the Sako (Tikka). Very accurate, handles recoil well, and easily in your price point with room to spare. Sign of the times, Im sure you know what Im talking about. Today, though, I would buy a Dead Air Nomad or a CGS Hyperion given the choice of anything on the market. You dont want fine wood and blued steel in the rain on a hunt. Surprised you didnt mention anything about the Sako 85. Those all sound like good options. Zero quality control issues. They are also slippery when wet and ice cold to touch in winter. Dont get me wrong. Ruger precision is really heavy for hunting, but a cool rifle. Since Bergara use a Rem 700 barrel (action and trigger too?) Regards kjetil A B Strandengen. If youre into Italian and youre into affordable, but you still want some Ferrari performance at the Fiat price, Franchis Momentum delivers the goods. The Tikka T3 features a standard box 3 round magazine but certain models come with a 4 round magazine. They are built in the same factory where they produce Mauser and Blaser rifles (all owned by the same company), so I guess quality shouldnt be an issue but unlike Mausers and Blasers, these rifles are far less expensive. Which takes of the other half of recoil . Mr. Harmer, I really appreciate your reviews on the Sig Cross and Waypoint. I dont know even they even sell it anymore but about 10-15 years ago my first .308 was a mossberg ATR. Ergonomics * * * * Would like a rifle that print a sub MOA with factory ammo. I enjoy your videos on YouTube, very informative and you dont pull any punches, I like that. Pls recommend as I need a rifle under 1500 $ including Scope for shooting upto 600 Yards with cheaper ammo to practice more. I dont say that lightly. Its become a turn off. On the range, the Franchi Momentum Elite Varmint is a bit larger and heavier compared to some of the thinner and shorter barreled Momentum rifles, coming in at 9 lbs., 6.4 ozs. You mention that you felt the Browning X-Bolt Pro was not a good fit for a heavy recoil gun. Best known for making value-priced shotguns, Franchi may well have taken a leap of faith by entering the highly competitive centrefire market. I like the fact that you backed your reviews with a substantial reason for the review vs nothing to substantiate the review. Im sure the leupold would be better, but for a 700 dollar difference, Ill see how I like the Burris. I saw you also mentioned something coming at Shotshow but did not see if you talked about this yet. Available in six calibers, TTAG gave the $609 MSRP .308 Winchester flavor a test drive. So far really like it FYI. That said, the polymer quality and stiffness are better than many. Seems that they manage to work loose occasionally. It's my 1st long-bolt (actually 2nd, I'd had Win 70 Ultimate Shadow 338 win mag. American Hunter's first reports of it indicated excellent fit and function and accuracy. It shoots some factory ammo sub moa as advertised but has been and uphill battle to get hand loaded 88grn eldm's to group consistent. If you were to build a rifle what action would you use. Its way more fun to shoot than the other guns. My 2 favorite calibers are 270( I have 6 of them) and 300H&H ( one pre 64 Winchester Model 70 and one Cooper). I own one in a 30-06, with 3 safes full of guns, it is my favourite. I see that you really like the Savage, but I was wondering if you have shot the Howa? I use Swaro and Zeiss optics and i use moderators on all of mine. Any opinions/guidance would be much appreciated! Keep up the good work! It would also handle bigger calibers MUCH better than the Cross. Im sold on the 7mm-08 for hunting but am having a hard time deciding/finding a decent rifle chambered in that caliber. I purchased a Stockys carbon stock for my Vanguard 6.5 PRC Meateater rifle and was able to shoot a suppressed 5 shot group at 100 yards that measured under 1/2 moa. As a side note, I have a Sako 85 from Cabelas. The Sig Cross: Amazing design after some early quality control issues. John did tell me that they are currently working on a fix for the extractor problem. I still love wood stocks. Jim, after watching the review of your Rival I wanted you to know I had the same problems with mine.
